You said → we built

Your feedback is the blueprint.

Thank you, Devon — this is exactly the input that makes a program fit a place. Here's how each note is reflected:

Who it's for — leaders from all service lines.
Built in: opened beyond nursing to leaders across every Elmhurst service line — one shared language of leadership, roster to be finalized with you.
Pillars — Executive Presence; Emotional Intelligence (intrinsic & extrinsic, self-regulation); Communicating with Diplomacy.
Built in: the pillars now lead with Executive Presence, Emotional Intelligence, and Communicating with Diplomacy — a deliberate move from reactive, combative exchanges to calm, de-escalating communication that models the culture you want.
Reinforcement — the CNO should see each leader's SMART-sheet progress.
Built in: a CNO progress view — you see participation and habit-building for every leader, in one place (preview below).
Kickoff — the 30-minute live kickoff should not be optional; everyone attends.
Built in: the live kickoff is now required for all participants — it's the moment that signals this is a real commitment to their growth.
Close — the group presents to you on how the program helped them.
Built in: a Day-43 capstone presentation to you and your leadership — each cohort shows what changed and the results they're carrying forward.

The Elmhurst leadership pillars

What your leaders will build.

Six pillars, led by the three priorities you named — practiced in short daily reps, not a one-day workshop.

Your priority

Executive Presence

How a leader shows up under pressure — composure, credibility, and command of the room, on rounds and in the boardroom.

Your priority

Emotional Intelligence

Self-awareness (intrinsic & extrinsic) and self-regulation — reading the room and governing your own response before you act.

Your priority

Communicating with Diplomacy

Clear, respectful, de-escalating communication — the detox from combative exchanges, so hard conversations build trust instead of fear.

Foundation

Self-Leadership & Resilience

Sustaining energy and focus so leaders model well-being instead of burnout.

Foundation

Operating Rhythm

Reliable huddles, rounding, and routines that make good performance the default.

Foundation

Accountability & Results

Follow-through and difficult conversations that turn effort into sustained, measurable outcomes.

A day in the program

Fifteen minutes. One habit at a time.

A sample lesson, and the SMART App view your leaders — and you — will see.

Pillar: Emotional Intelligence · Day 9

The two-second pause that regulates you

When a nurse escalates or a peer pushes back, your first reaction is chemical — not yet leadership. Today you'll practice the name-it & pause move: silently name the emotion ("I'm feeling defensive"), take one breath, then choose your response.

Self-regulation isn't suppressing what you feel. It's creating the half-second of space where your judgment — not your adrenaline — picks the next sentence.

▶ Try it today: In your next tense exchange, name the emotion to yourself before you reply. Log it in your SMART sheet tonight.
